Four Important Hiring Tips To Implement Now

March22

Never hired before?  Hired before, but could use some help?  Implement the tips below to make the process of finding and hiring the best candidates a lot easier.

Hiring Tip #1: Acknowledge Applicants

Applicants who have taken the time to submit a resume or application should be acknowledged.  If you don’t have the resources to respond to each person who applies, post a brief statement on your website as to what candidates can expect when they submit a resume for your job, including whether all candidates will be contacted, or just those candidates who will be invited in for an interview.

Hiring Tip #2: Follow Up With Job Candidates

Given time constraints, or a discomfort for relaying “bad news”, many managers neglect to contact candidates that they have interviewed to inform them of whether or not they will still be considered for the job.

If you have invited a candidate in for an interview, be sure to keep them apprised of their status during your interview process.  Don’t leave the candidate wondering whether or not they are still being considered.  If you have ruled out a candidate that you have interviewed, let them know as soon as possible.

Hiring Tip #3: Have Candidates Complete a Job Application

No matter how small your company, a best business practice is to ask candidates who will be interviewed to complete a job application in addition to submitting their resume.  A job application is considered a legal document.  When an applicant signs your application form, they are verifying that the information that they have provided is true and accurate.  If you’ve hired an employee who you later find has falsified their education or experience on their application, you have a clear cut case for dismissal, if termination is the appropriate action to take.

Hiring Tip # 4: Prepare for the Interview in Advance

You want to find the best candidate for your job.  One of the most effective ways to do that is to take the time to write down all of the tasks that you will require of your new employee as well as the softer skills that are important for the candidate to possess in order to be effective in the job.  Softer skills include things such as “customer service skills” or “interpersonal skills”.

Develop questions that focus on the core skills, competencies and experience that you have identified in your job summary, or description. When thinking about the types of questions that you’d like to ask your potential employee, make sure that the questions are “behavioral” interview questions which require the applicant to provide examples that support their experience as opposed to answering just yes or no.

Tips For Identifying Your Strengths And Landing The Job You Want

March21

During an interview, you are often asked about your strengths and weaknesses. If you know your strengths and can speak about your weaknesses and the ways you can improve upon them, you gain an upper hand over other candidates.

Identifying Your Strengths

There are ways to identify your strengths in order to get the job you desire. You can evaluate your experience and education, for example, or you can ask your friends, family, colleagues, or even your boss.

Strengths That Are Based On Knowledge

Knowledge-based strengths are those that you have gained through education and experience. These can be technical knowledge, computer skills, mastery of languages, and other similar skills. If you have excelled in a certain subject in school then you can project it as a strength.

Computer skills are an additional advantage for the job applicant whose field is not computers. Similarly, fluency in a foreign language can be a special advantage. If you have received certificates for courses you have completed then you can also add them as a strength.

Skills Developed In the Workplace

These can be analytical, communication, or planning skills or something similar. Different work scenarios teach us different skills and there might be some arenas in which you might have come out with flying colors.

You might have received accolades for a certain project or your colleagues might find you to be a great co-worker. It is these skills that you need to capitalize upon when you’re preparing your resume.

Know Your Personal Traits

Every person has at least one unique quality or a unique combination of qualities that sets him apart from others. You need to figure out your special qualities. You might be expressive, hard-working, punctual, formal, congenial, dependable, flexible, or a combination of these.

You need to know them and mention them as your strengths in your resume, cover letter or during an interview.

Ask For Help

If you are still facing difficulties in figuring out your strengths, ask you friends or colleagues. You might have certain skills that you have not been aware of. For example, you might be detail-oriented but you have never realized it.

You might be a congenial person to work with or you might have innovative ideas. To find out your weaknesses, you can ask your boss. He is sure to have some listed under your name. Work upon those areas to make yourself as free of these as possible.

A little self-assessment or help from people around you can go far in helping you identify your strengths and ameliorate your weaknesses and land you the job you want.

Jobs For Teens Depend On First Impressions!

March21

Jobs for teens are more than just jobs. They require more than a willingness to work hard. Or showing up on time. They’re unique opportunities to discover how to present yourself persuasively!

At some point in your jobs for teens search you’ll be meeting face to face with the person who could be your next boss. Except neither of you know it yet. But whether you go on a traditional interview or you meet someone informally FIRST IMPRESSIONS COUNT!

You’ve been told how important it is to dress right and speak well. There are plenty of books available which instruct you on the fine points of an interview . . . what to say . . . what not to say.

What they don’t tell you is that a fundamental first opinion about you has been formed before you even open your mouth! So, if you’re serious about being eligible for the best possible jobs for teens, then you have to present yourself in a way that attracts positive attention.

Here are 5 simple tips that can help you make a good impression and establish a sense of control over the event. Check yourself out on all these aspects when you going to meet your next boss for the first time.

1. The look on your face. It has to been friendly, confident, self-assured . . . and smiling. Remember, it’s your responsibility to present yourself in a way that attracts interest and openness.

2. Your voice. Make sure your throat is cleared and you’re prepared to speak with authority.

3. Your hands. Sweaty palms are a real turn-off. If you tend to get wet hands when you’re nervous, be sure to carry a Kleenex.

4. Shake hands with firmness . . . not like a wimp.

5. Look the decision-maker in the eye. You lose lots of points if you don’t know how to establish immediate eye-contact.

Oh sure, what you have to say and how you say it is very important. So is filling out a job application neatly and thoroughly. Or putting together a resume that’s attractive and promotional. The bad news is that an employer won’t even consider those things or your past experience if your first impression isn’t favorable.

In other words, many first meetings or interviews are over before you even have that chance to present yourself because a bad first impression becomes an obstacle you never get past. So, if you’re not sure how well you do on these important first impression items, take the time to practice with a friend till you feel assured that you can meet and greet your prospective next boss with confidence.

When fun and good-paying jobs for teens are at stake, first impression is that important!

Seeking Federal Employment – How To Get A Federal Job

March21

When it comes to landing pretty much any kind of job, your resume is the first step to getting you in the door. If your resume isn’t strong enough to impress prospective employers, then your chances of getting hired are already out the window. This is especially true if you are seeking a federal job position, in which case having a strong resume depends on having the right kind of resume. The federal job application process requires a specifically formatted resume that differs from the civilian resume structure, and tailoring your resume to meet federal standards requires knowledge of exactly what those standards are. One of the best ways to ensure that your resume will follow the federal format is to call on a federal resume service to do it for you. But be careful when you choose a federal resume service – you want to make sure that you find one that truly knows all the ins and outs of writing a federal resume.

The main thing to remember when selecting a federal resume service is that they hold the key to your chances of scoring a great federal job. As stated before, there are some major differences between federal and civilian resumes, so if the service you choose is not completely knowledgeable about these differences, you’re going to have spent money on a resume that you might as well have written yourself and wasted time going after jobs that you still won’t be considered for. It is extremely important that you choose a federal resume service that will work hard to create a correctly formatted resume that will give you a fighting chance.

A couple of ways that you can narrow down the pool of choices is by doing some research. How long has the service been around? Will they provide you with samples of their work? If so, what quality is the sample that they produce? If a federal resume service can’t answer all of these questions to your satisfaction, then move on. Any service that’s going to be capable of providing you with a decent federal resume, which will in turn allow you to be considered for the better federal jobs, will have a good track record and readily offer strong examples of their work.

Searching for a job is always hard, and searching for a federal job can be even harder, but the right federal resume service help you navigate the first step towards getting a great federal job by ensuring that your resume is up to federal standards. Having the wrong resume will kill your opportunity for a federal career, so choosing a federal resume service carefully can better your chances of getting a better job, and potentially even raise your earning power. If you keep these things in mind when you finally pick the federal resume service that’s right for you, you can feel good knowing that you’ve made the right choice.

Job Fairs – Make The Best Use Of Them

March20

Job seekers are all over the place looking for a job that will suit them. Job seeking has become such a daunting task with the increase in people looking for jobs.

Most of the people do however overlook job fairs. The main reason is because job seekers do not like places that are filled with activity and those places which are also jam packed. However, this is one place where you can be quite sure to get a job.

According to the United States bureau of the labor statistics, the status of employment has boosted up by about fifteen percent. Many companies do participate in these job fairs and hence it is one of the best places to get a job.

First of all you need to know that job fairs are not as bustling as you think they are. the most important thing you will need to do is bring in your job application and nothing more.

To make the best of these job fairs, you have to make sure that you do have a few important things that are required.

1. Research in advance can be helpful.

Job seekers do want to get the best job they can. Therefore, advance research is one thing that is necessary before going to one of these places.

Job fairs do put up a list of the companies that will be taking part in this fair. You may have an edge over other people if you do know a little about the company and also some information on their position.

2. Job seekers do need enough resumes.

If a job seeker has about twenty five resumes when she or he is going to a job fair, he or she will be in a good position as they will be able to give their resumes to all the companies that they want to apply for. This also gives them a better hand in getting a job.

3. Dressing for the occasion is one thing that job seekers have to keep in mind.

First impression is the best impression. So dressing well does make an impression on the employer. You should be able to impress the employer with your outfit. Determination, enthusiasm and also a professional outlook are things that are looked for.

4. On spot interviews may be there.

5. A record of the companies where you have applied fro need to be kept in hand for any sort of reference.

Resume Tips Refresher

March20

Writing a resume is a difficult task partly because it is tedious. It essentially requires us to go back in time and try to recollect what we did. That’s the easy part, although not necessarily an enjoyable one. Once that is done, the next thing to do is to try to explain how our experience and qualifications will benefit a potential employer. Here’s where many people get stuck. We know what we did, but it is a real drag having to explain that to others. Where to start? What to say? How to say it? Where to put the emphasis? Where to stop?

There are no rigid formulas to resume writing. Our experiences all differ and we have to make them compelling the best we can. A good way to start is to look at resume samples on the Web and see the ones that catch our attention. Another way to approach resume writing is to purchase resume templates already formatted, so that at least half of the problem is resolved. You would be surprised how hard it is to format a decent resume and how much time you can waste trying to make your resume look good.

Once the background work is done, the next part is to go through many drafts of your resume and with each draft improve bits and pieces of it so that after a few drafts it starts to make sense. If you are wondering whether or not you are spending too much time or effort drafting your resume, let me tell you that it is not unusual to go through as many as 10 drafts, so don’t give up after 2 or 3. The more drafts you go through, the better your resume will become. Also, in addition to revisiting your resume many times, let your mind rest between each revision. You will be surprised how a little perspective will change your view on things.

Remember that you have to approach the resume, not from your perspective, but from the perspective of someone who knows nothing about you and is looking at many job applications. This is where you have to seek the input of your friends and family members. Let them take a look at your resume and listen to their feedback. Is your resume clear? Is it compelling?

Who would the employer pick… not for a job, but for an interview… is the question that you must ultimately answer when you review your resume. If and when you can affirm with conviction that you stand a good chance of getting an interview with your resume as drafted, then you know it is ready to go. Actually, that is the second mistake that many people make. They think that the resume is supposed to convince the employer to hire them. Wrong! The resume is only to convince them to allow you to advance to the next level, the face-to-face meeting.

With the above general guidelines in mind, good luck in drafting a resume that will serve as a stepping stone to land you your next job.

What’s Your Story? . . . Job Interviewing with Pizzazz!

March20

Do you know what the most important impact of your job interviewing is?

Is it having a terrific work history? Or a firm handshake and ready smile? How about your connections and name-dropping? Actually none of the above.

The most important thing that can come out of your job interviewing is that an employer can remember you! You read that right. Memorability . . . that’s what will make the difference.

You see, in most cases, no employer is going to make a hiring decision about you on the spot. He/she is going to weigh you against other candidates. They are going to reflect on your credentials to see if you match their expectations. In other words, any decisions about you are likely to made long after you’ve gone.

So, what can you do to make sure you stand out in a decision-maker’s mind? What can you say that will make an employer remember you?

Well, the answer is not so much what you say as how you say it. Assuming you’ve got good credentials that qualify you for the job, then, what’s going to make the difference is how you present yourself . . . in a way that will stand out in an employer’s mind and enable him/her to picture you over and above the rest.

Story-telling!

Learn how to talk about yourself using stories rather than an arid recitation of facts about you. You have to remember that an employer is likely to conduct job interviewing for a number of candidates. And they’re all trying to sell something about themselves.

If you’ve ever had to do any job interviewing, you know that after while the candidates tend to pale into a sea of gray. And you really have to scratch your head to remember what’s outstanding about each job applicant. But if you could remove that burden by establishing yourself through carefully-structured, colorful stories about yourself, you can dramatically move the odds in your favor.

I say “carefully-structured” and “colorful.” That means you have to select specific qualities you want to emphasize to a particular employer. Then, find a work-related incident that best highlights that event and tell a colorful, memorable story that creates a picture of you in action in the mind of the decision-maker.

Prepare several stories. Then, selectively tell them at the appropriate time in the course of job interviewing. The good news is that there’s an exciting alternative job search system that shows you exactly how to structure these stories and use them to turn you into a winner in the interview!

Your Credit Report Could Sink Your Job Prospects! 5 Critical Tips!

March19

Your job prospects could be seriously in jeopardy. Not because your resume may contain a few untruths. Or because your references are less than enthusiastic. Or even because you have some skeletons buried in your work history.

No, no, no. Your job prospects problem has nothing to do with your boss’ report about you. It’s your credit report!

You read right! Increasingly, employers are obtaining copies of your credit report to see how responsible you are handling money. This critical information is factoring into their overall impression of you.

According to an article on The Wall Street Journal Career website, a survey by The Society for Human Resource Management found the 35% of employers checked credit reports. That was in 2003. It’s even higher today.

There are no laws preventing employers from investigating your credit report and using the information to make a negative decision about you.

So, what can you do? Fight back! Here are some important job hunt tips that put the ball in your court and clear the way for your job prospects:

1. Check you credit report before applying for any jobs. If you find a mistake, contact the credit agency. They’re required to investigate any disputed items.

2. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, a prospective employer must obtain your permission in writing before accessing your credit report.

3. If an employer denies your employment application they must give you a copy and tell you how you can dispute inaccuracies with the credit bureau.

4. If you DO have a credit problem, the best course is to address it yourself right upfront.

5. Be prepared to demonstrate your strengths, capabilities and assets that overshadow your credit report.

We know from studies we’ve done that, in the final analysis, when all is said and done, an employer is going to hire you because he/she likes you. That’s right! An employer will always pick someone, not because of a work history and job credentials, but because he/she sees you fitting into the team.

That’s good news because it can override any and all potential negatives, provided, of course, you handle yourself in a professional way. That means you must work on and practice your face-to-face communication with a prospective employer.

It also means you must have a savvy plan of action that can guide you through the tough questions and guarantee your success. When you do it right, your job prospects suddenly become golden!

Tips for Great Makeup

March19

Makeup Application Tips

Who needs a face full of makeup? Not you! The key to looking your best is to pick one feature to highlight, and then use colors and formulas sheer enough to let your naturally gorgeous self shine through. In Beauty, the main features are hair, nail, skin, teeth, lips etc. Beauty can better be defined as a major exercise of a positive expression related to anybody’s own existence. Beauty is a complete person, an object, destination which gives ample knowledge about happiness, declaration, politeness and implication of the impressive expression. Any person who sees a beautiful thing, he will surely be thrilled and excited about that particular human being or natural beauty.

Beautiful Hands and Nails – People are rarely known far and wide for having pretty hands, but ugly hands get noticed by everyone. To soften hands or feet, rub liberally with petroleum jelly, put on a pair of gloves or socks and wear overnight. Use a nail buffer to shine nails between manicures. .Fingernails should be trimmed often to promote the best possible nail condition. For men, nails should not be much longer than the fingertip. Women may keep their nails longer but they should still trim them on a routine basis so as to keep their nails healthy while they are growing. Individuals who maintain their nails to promote nutritious nails should use nail trimming tools and not pick or pull at the nails to make them shorter.

Applying Lipstick- To facilitate the task of lipstick application to you and pretty finished, start by eliminating the small skins being able to level on the lips. Applying lip liner can be difficult. Start at the center of your upper lip, draw a line to each outer corner, following the edge of your natural lip line. If you go outside from the natural lip line, use a damp Q-Tip to blot out the unwanted color and reapply. Lipstick is to load your lipstick brush with color and brush inwards from the corners of your mouth. To give your lips the Cupid’s bow shape, lay the brush flat to paint a ‘V’ shape or curve. Apply a lip base, like Cargo Lip Base, prior to your lip makeup application. This will condition your lips and prep them for color.

If you are wearing lipstick, use a lip liner first and then fill in with the same liner.

Hair Color-Most people can successfully color their hair at home but there are exceptions. You should get a professional color job if your hair is in poor condition – coloring dry damaged hair at home can result in uneven color. Also, if your hair has different shades and you want one even tone, a hairdresser can apply different formulas to the different areas. Finally, it’s best to leave it to the experts if you want to make a drastic change to your hair color, say dark brown to platinum blonde, or you want special color effects or highlights.

3. Appropriate makeup-Wear makeup that is appropriate for the occasion. If you are going to the beach you shouldn’t wear the same or as much makeup as you would if you were going dancing. Also, when you are in daylight your makeup should be lighter than when you are out for the evening. start with foundation, add mascara, blush or lipstick. If you are not used to wearing makeup, using a lot at first may be a little too much for you, so start slowly.

Resume Writing Tips – How to Write a Resume That Persuades!

March19

When applying for a job, you have to remember that you’re not the only available candidate. Your future employer or the head of the HR department probably has a good number of resumes waiting on his or her desk.

In order to catch their attention, you have to make sure that your resume stands out among the rest. In fact, resume writing tips are the secret weapon of many successful job applicants!

You might think that a resume is only a piece of paper and that what matters most is the interview itself. However, know that applying resume writing tips on your own profile automatically gives you an edge over the others! Scroll down a bit more and learn how to gain a good advantage over your competition!

Do Your Research

What is the company all about? What kind of person are they looking for? If you take the time to research on your target workplace, you’ll be able to find out just what qualities you can highlight on your resume.

Keep in mind that companies aren’t necessarily looking for the highest scorer or the best speaker. They’re looking for that one person who will match and blend with the job and their company perfectly.

Use Action Words

I’m not just talking about verbs here. When describing the task you have accomplished, stick to specific descriptions and use the active voice.

After all, it’s much more pleasant and interesting to learn that you “edited and published a collection of short stories” than “served as an editor.” It shows that you’re someone who works hard.

Avoid Stereotypes

Stereotypes will kill your resume. Many articles on resume writing tips will warn you of being too ordinary. Remember that the goal here is to stand out. Start with your objective.

We all know how the typical objective goes. Try to keep yours interesting by fusing your personal point of view and the company’s direction. That will definitely help you come up with a fresher objective.

Now that you have learned a few of the standard resume writing tips, go over your resume and see which areas you can improve on. Is your objective too boring? Can you make your tasks more specific and action-oriented? Do you think your resume shows that you’re the right person the company is looking for?

After reviewing and submitting your resume, it won’t take long before the phone rings and someone asks you to schedule a job interview!
